84 year old Yang Guo Dong was a huge character, with excellent English and memory. Whilst I took his photo, he recounted tails of the Americans in Yunnan during the Second World War.

We spent an hour one afternoon waiting for one of Zhao Zhu Min's chickens to lay an egg, all to no avail. During the wait, I shot this photo of 73 year old Mr Zhao with one of his brood.

This upstairs gallery gives an insight into the incredible level of decoration which the houses exhibited before their destruction and defacement in the Cultural Revolution.
The view from the terrace of the Linden Centre, a restored courtyard home and now a 15 room hotel. It was saved from destruction in the Cultural Revolution as it was the base for the army. It was bought and restored by an American couple who are active in the local community.
